Food Walking Tour of Gijón
Gijón has long been the tourist center of Asturias. While Oviedo is the capital, and the cultural center, Gijón rose to prominence as the commercial and industrial center of Asturias. These days it is the premier travel destination in Asturias. That makes it a wonderful place to eat and drink. My Gijón local food tour will orient you to all of the possibilities.
We will begin our tour at the 19th century Mercado del Sur to learn about local shopping and produce. We will learn a bit about seafood in the area before moving on.
From the market, we will make our way towards the old town.1 Along the way we will visit a locally revered pastry shop. Additionally we will see a storied coffee shop that began life as a theater, and the definitive Asturian Sidrería.
Next, we will stop in at one of my favorite place for a beer in all of Asturias. Afterwards, it’s off to the locals favorite pastry shop. Then we visit the waterfront for more about the fishing heritage of the area at the most famous meet up spot in the city. We will pass by the famous cider bottle statue as well.
Our Gijón local food tour will end in the heart of Cimavilla. In at one of the most traditional sidrerías in the area. We will talk about and experience the traditional cider pouring and drinking experience. This is also an excellent choice for lunch after the tour!
