Food Walking Tour of Oviedo
The capital of Asturias is an eater’s and drinker’s delight. From internationally acclaimed Michelin-starred restaurants to tiny local favorites not in any guide book, Oviedo has it all. As the capital of Asturias, and its cultural center, there are many opportunities in Oviedo to indulge your taste buds.
From one of the oldest daily markets in all of Spain1 to the food focus of the oldest document in the Iberian peninsula2, the gastronomic history of Oviedo is immense.
We will visit the market to learn about typical Asturian products and learn a bit about the language. We will also visit the exterior of the cathedral in Oviedo. There we will learn about the deep roots of cider and cheese making in Asturias. Additionally we will visit Calle Gascona, the cider drinking center of Oviedo. Along the way we will tour several of the famous pastry shops in the city.
In Calle Gascona we will visit a traditional sidrería for a bottle of cider to share. I will explain the various parts of the cider pouring and drinking ritual. You will come away well-armed to enjoy cider like a local for the rest of your visit to Oviedo.
