Rulo Tres Leches con Arandanos
Cow, sheep, and goat milk blended together and wrapped around blueberries. A half kilo log of cheesy bliss. One that invites comparisons with Wensleydale. This Rulo Tres Leches con Arandanos – Three Milk Roll with Blueberries – is a relative newcomer to the Asturian cheese making scene. It is however, a welcome and popular addition.
Where Is It From?
Tierra de Tineo is a relatively new cheese maker, having started production in Tineo in 2007. They make a number of innovative cheeses, in addition to their mainstay Afuega’l Pitu.
Tineo is the second largest conceyo in Asturias. Livestock have long been the main source of work in Tineo, and that lends itself to a fine cheese making tradition. Indeed, Tineo is the largest producer of milk in Asturias.
How Rulo Tres Leches con Arandanos Is Made
Tres Leches con Arandanos is made with pasteurized cow (80%), goat (10%) and sheep (10%) milk, salt, rennet, lactic. Matured for only 10 to 15 days, this is a very fresh cheese. Nicely compacted and shipped out literally as fresh as it is possible to be.
Uses For Rulo Tres Leches con Arandanos
Common Uses: This is a popular cheese for making desserts. I will certainly be making a cheesecake with it in the very near future. It is also popular on toast for breakfast or mid-morning snack.
How I Use It: Smear it on absolutely everything. Bread. Crackers. Apple slices. Muffins. The dog. Crumble it in a salad, particularly a baby spinach salad with toasted walnuts.
Where To Find Rulo Tres Leches con Arandanos
For some strange reason, this is a relatively difficult to find cheese, even in Asturias. Of course, all things are available via mail order or by visiting the cheese maker directly. However, I am surprised that even at the better grocery stores in Asturias this is often absent. Perhaps it is simply too popular to keep reliably in stock. The cheese maker’s website does list it as one of their best selling items…
Unfortunately I do not know of an American importer for Tres Leches con Arandanos.
