Trabanco
Everywhere you go in Asturias, there is cider. Without exaggeration, it is the defining feature of life in Asturias. Life here has revolved around the pomarada and the llagar for hundreds of years now. Social life has revolved around the sidrería and the chigre for just as long. And pretty much anywhere you find sidra natural, you will find Trabanco.
For certain, anywhere outside of Asturias that you find sidra natural you find Trabanco. In many cases, only Trabanco. They have the most well developed national, and international, distribution network. That alone makes them something of an ambassador to the world for Asturian cider. And to be honest, it would be hard to pick a better ambassador.
History
Started in 1925 by Emilio Trabanco in Lavandera, a parish of Gijón, the llagar has grown steadily though the intervening decades. Once the children, Vicente and Alicia, took over in 1963, production ramped up quickly. Later, Trabanco found itself at the forefront of a revival of regional folkways, sidra among them, after the death of the dictator Franco. Steady expansion of the orchards throughout the 1970s and 1980s allowed Sidra Trabanco to increase production apace. In time, they absorbed other cider makers; most notably Camín in 1988. Camín now serves as the brand name they sell exclusively through supermarkets and food stores.
