Fiesta de la Sidra Natural en Gijón
The biggest cider party in Asturias is the Fiesta de la Sidra Natural en Gijón. This celebration lasts for a whole week, although the main events are concentrated on the last weekend of August. A party to enjoy the atmosphere, gastronomy, and culture of Asturian cider.
Every day you can visit the "Mercadín de la Sidra y la Manzana", a market of cider related crafts and foods located along the Plaza Mayor and the Gijón marina. Tasting contests, cultural activities and demonstrations of Asturian folklore are also held.
The high point of the party comes with the Guinness World Record for simultaneous pouring of cider, which is broken every year on Poniente Beach. There is an extensive program of activities such as the pourers contest, chigre songs, free cider tasting, performances by bagpipe bands and the cider bus.
Prizes are awarded in recognition of the work in the defense and promotion of cider, such as the Tonel de Oro Award, as well as the Elogio de Oro Award for the best cider served at the party.
